Pack 88 Mission
It is the mission of the Cub Scout Pack 88 to serve others by helping to build character and to instill community involvement in boys in the elementary grade school level by following the values based on those of the Cub Scout Promise and the Cub Scout Motto of " do your best."History About the Scouts
Scouting was started by a British Army officer named Robert S.S Baden Powell in 1908. He authored a book for his soliders explaining how to administer first aid, follow trails and find food and water. Later, Mr. Baden Powell wrote a scouting book for boys.
Once year later in 1909, Willam Boyce a Chicago businessman, was lost in a London fog until a boy helped him find his way. When Mr. Boyce offered a reward, the boy refused explaining that he was a scout and could not take money for a good deed. Later, the boy took Mr. Boyce to meet Mr. Baden Powell who taught him all about scouting. After learning about scouting, Mr. Boyce subsequently started the Boys Scouts in the United States on Feburary 10, 1910.
When the Boy Souts started it was for only older boys. Seeing that a lot of younger boys also wanted to become scouts, Mr. Baden Powell started a wolf program in 1916. Cub Scouting began in the United States in 1929 with the dens meeting weekly and the pack meeting twice a month.
Mr. Baden Powell died on January 8, 1941 in Kenya, Africa. Before he died, he wrote a letter to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts all over the world. In the letter he said, " Try to leave this world a little better then your found it." Beginning with 2000 Boy Scouts and leaders in 1910, scouting in United States had grown to 6 million strong. From a program for Boy Scouts only, it has spread into a program including Tiger Scouts, Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturers. Although scouting has changed over the years, the ideals and principals have remained the same- Service to Others and Duty to God and Country.
